Portraits of the Prophets, 2019

36mm x 24mm each

Cameraless photography artwork done by overlapping scratched, detergent-soaked color film and newspaper issued on 19 April 2020 - the day where 9 scholars and politicians who initiated 'Occupy Central Movement' in Hong Kong at 2014, were sentenced to jail. Written words quoted from what the arrested scholars have said, as well as the photo of faces of the pro-government politicians is cut and placed into cumulative layers. The differ of meaning in the words and images lead to a debate - is the justice system of Hong Kong still fair if a pro-government politician didn't get any punishment when he violated the law?

This set of 5 images was printed on an acrylic plane in the size of 35mm film, and was placed on a lightbox for audience to observe the details with a magnifier. As the grain of the newspaper enlarged can only be seen by magnification, which imitates the experience for people investigating at film.
